I was a healthy 44 woman until three days ago when I was diagnosed with Type 1 adult onset diabetes. I am 5'6" and 120 lbs. How does this happen? The doctors in the ER asked if I had been sick or had a virus in the past year and I have not. There is zero history in my family anywhere....
Dear i can understand your concern. This adult onset type 1 diabetes is called LADA this kind of diabetes is due to auto immunity,Which damages our Beta cells. in most of the cases is Unknown. There are many hypothesis postulated but nothing has been proven Among them viral hypothesis is also one. But relax with the new kinds of technology available now treatment of diabetes is very effective in small children also we are now installing some thing called 'sensor augmented insulin pump' which will work almost like a artificial pancreas. for any further information write back to HCM Best regards Dr vamsi krishna Diabetologist
