Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my mother is 93 and recently has had several instances where she is confused about her 4 children in particular her youngest namely me. she asks me directly where is little Jimmy when i am in fact that same little jimmy now 63 years old this seems to happen when she wakes after sleeping or napping and has occired on sevearl occasions she also imagines seeing/searching for the dog she has a child
It sounds as though your mother may be developing dementia. This is altered mental functioning that causes difficulty with memory, reasoning, personality changes and affects the ability to do activities of daily living.
Her doctor can assess her to determine if this is the case. He or she may also suggest blood tests to look for reversible cause eg dehydration, electrolyte disturbance, infection etc
Some medications can also cause a change in mental function so any meds that she is using may also need to be looked at.
If there is a reversible cause then this can be treated.
I hope this helps
