What Causes Aggressive Behavior While On Adderall?

My 8-year old was prescribed Adderall. He has been exhibit extreme aggression and anger since being placed on it. He no longer smiles, laughs or jokes. After being off it for a few days he went back to smiling and laughing. Should he remain off of this medicine? Is it dangerous to put him back on it. He also developed a tic.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi. Thanks for your concern. The aggressive behaviour you are experiencing can be a side effects of Adderall. It is no that common but some kids experience this, and can even experience psychotic episodes. And because of the tic I would suggest that it be stopped and that you look into alternative available for ADHD. One alternative could be the use of Atomoxetine which has also been known to show good effects
