Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Allergic Reactions From Mosquito Stings?
I carry an Epi-Pen for mosquito stings and am desperately searching for any research for treatments. This year my reaction has become more severe. Many years ago I suddenly reacted to wasp stings. Then several years ago I was again tested and reacted to mosquitos. I ve gone from reacting some to 2-3 stings to now reacting more severely to just one. I am: 1). Taking venom shots to reduce severity of reaction. I want to speed up this process - is this feasible? 2). Wearing repellant on skin, clothes 3). Taking Benadryl. Although it has helped, I just end up administering the Epi-Pen and calling 911 anyway. 4). Limiting outdoors, etc. Unfortunately I live in South Florida and this year has been the worst! Thank you for any advise you can provide. Sincerely, Hannah
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have allergic reactions from mosquito stings. I would suggest you to visit allergist and get allergic test such as Patch test done and start treatment accordingly. Sometimes sting get stuck in to skin and cause problem. Apply ice pack to reduce redness and itchiness and drink plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated. Maintain good personal hygiene. Apply calamine lotion at the sites of the lesion. Take anti-allergics like Levocetrizine, Allegra to control the itching and swelling and avoid excessive exposure to sunlight and if ever have to go cover face with damp cloth.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
