What Causes Amenorrhea Followed By Abnormal Menstrual Bleeding?
I had a tubal 19 years ago. For the past year I ll go 3 or 4 months without a period. I had an extremely heavy one in March. Lots of heavy bleeding. Then my next one was in June. Very light. Two days ago I guess came another period. It s only there when I wipe. This morning I went to the bathroom and 3 drops of blood were floating in the toilet. Is this normal? I m right at 45 years old

I have reviewed your query and understand your concern.
Very likely you are going into menopause due to the irregular bleeding you are having but some other conditions of the uterus have to be ruled out as well.
A pregnancy test is the first to be done if you have been sexually active to make sure you are not pregnant.
If the pregnancy test is negative (you are not pregnant) it is important to have a vaginal ultrasound and gynecological visit with a pap smear done to check the uterine cervix and thickness of the inner layer of the cervix.
If these are normal than you may take oral contraceptive for 3 months which generally help stabilize the hormones and regulate the menstrual cycles. If you bleed irregularly while on oral contraception you might need to have a biopsy of the uterine inner layer to rule out thickness or tumors.
To confirm that you are going into menopause a FSH and estradiol test can be done.
