Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a very poor sense of smell and all food tastes like it is cooked with garlic salt. It does not matter what I eat (fruit, bread, bacon, popcorn) it all tastes the same. This problem started in late December after having a upper respiratory infection. In the last week I smell the same scent as my taste. What could be causing this problem? Do I need to see an ENT to determine the problem?
Alterations/ decrease in smell and taste can be due to allergic rhinitis, sinusitis, upper respiratory infections, medications, or neurological problems. Ear, nose and throat examination and investigations including Xray, nerve conduction studies etc are required to make a definite diagnosis. Please be advised that you consult an ENT specialist for further evaluation and management.
Hope I was able to help you Please address any more questions Regards, Dr.Lekshmi Please address any
