Hello,

Changes of smell sense while you have gone through an upper respiratory infection are very likely due to the infection itself which most of the times is a viral infection.
The infection may affect the smell receptors and may cause strange sensations. It is expected to fade away soon as the symptoms of the infection go away.
You just need to make sure you eat frequent small amounts of food and you can avoid strong taste and strong smell food to help with the problem you are having. Plane soups and fruit should be easier to eat.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician
