What Causes An Altered Sense Of Smell While On Topiramate?

I have been on topiramate 25 mg once a day for eating disorder for 6 months and my sense of smell is off. I smell everything different. Is this something I need to be concerned about and when I stop taking topiramate will my sense of smell go back to normal? Thank you

Short answer: Yes, the distortion of taste is due to Topiramate.
Detailed answer: Distortion of taste is one of the many side effects of Topiramate (in 1-10% of cases). The mechanism is complicated and of no interest to you.
The good news is that the sense of smell will go back to normal if you change the drugs taken or quit topiramate, but for this you have to consult your doctor!
