What Causes An Altered Sense Of Smell?

I have a bread/yeast smell in my nostrils. I've had a cold/flu for a week blowing my nose a lot. Used drixine for 3 days last week and have used dymista stopped yesterday after noticing persistent smell. Have used dymista in past with no similar problem.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of an altered sense of smell which seems to be due to sinusitis , nasal polyp , acid reflux and nerve dysfunction like olfactory nerve. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for proper diagnosis . Doctor may order nasal endoscopy, CT scan, MRI, blood test and physical examination and may prescribe antibiotics such as amoxicillin or penicillin for at least for 10 days along with anti inflammatory medications. Suck on sugar free candies. Maintain complete hygiene and avoid touching or pricking nose.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Get Well Soon.

Best wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
