Altered sense of smell as per your query seems to be due to condition called phantosmia and could be due to oral infection, sinusitis i.e inflammation of sinuses, and glossopharyngeal nerve dysfunction and could be due to side effects of certain medications. I would suggest you to maintain proper oral hygiene. You should take proper antibiotic an and anti-inflammatory medication course to suppress sinus infection. Take diet rich in zinc supplements as that will recover taste. chew on sugar free candies. You should visit neurologist once as well and take medications which lower down autoimmune or nervous system disorder if it is due to nerve dysfunction. Make use of oral corticosteroids as well because if it's due to any allergy it will resume back taste.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
