Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a very strong taste of what I can only compare to the taste of rubbing alcohol in the back of my throat. Its extremely strong, and won t seem to dissipate. Do you know what could be causing this? I have a history of SLE Lupus/fibromyalgia/raynauds phenomenon/a pineal cyst.
Understanding your concern. As per your query you are having an altered sense of taste which is due to accumulation of mucous in sinuses and leads to blockage of nose as the sinuses drains through nose. It could be due to underlying systemic condition as well. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to take steam inhalation three times a day. You should take proper course of antibiotics along with anti-inflammatory medications and take decongestant nasal sprays as it will relief stuffy nose. Do nasal saline rinses and maintain hygiene. Visit ENT specialist once and get complete examination done. Go for paranasal sinus X-ray and start treatment accordingly. Chew on sugar-free candies to stimulate salivary flow and do rinses with antiseptic mouthwash.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
