Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi I have been having a fish taste when I swallow, I’m sure it’s phlegm but I’m not sure why it taste like fish. This has only been going on for a few weeks and I’ve had lost of drainage like thick globs of phlegm that I swallow or spit up but the spitting up has dissipated now it’s mostky just draining into my throat.
As per your query, altered sense of taste is because of dysguesia, could be due to sinus infection, tobacco use, zinc deficiency, B12 deficiency, autoimmune diseases and dry mouth. I would suggest you to find out the cause and start treatment accordingly.
Use zinc supplements for better recovery. Avoid medications like albuterol or take substitute for the same. Use mouth wash for supplementing taste by stopping bacterial growth. Use of chewing gums for saliva stimulation. Maintain proper dental hygiene.
If nerve disease is a cause, then nerve microsurgery is recommended. If this condition keeps on persisting, then visit a dentist/dermatologist once.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
