What Causes An Asthma Attack?

Hello I have just found out I had mild asthma a couple of weeks ago I have done my breathing treatment and everything seemed fine until today I had a mini attack... Why? I also remember my doctor saying that I need to cut back on caffeine since I have asthma because of the medicine that I'am taking and yesterday I had a soda could that have been the reason why I had the attack.

Hello.

Thank you for asking at HCM.

I went through your history & I would like to answer your queries as follows:

1. Common causes of asthma attacks (factors triggering asthma) are - exposure to allergens (house dust mites, molds, pollens, pet dander, etc), exposure to irritants (dusts, smokes, air-pollutants, strong perfumes, pesticide sprays, etc) as well as exercise, cold air currents, cold foods/beverages, etc.

2. I guess your doctor may have prescribed you a drug from aminoxanthines class (such as aminophylline or doxophylline). That is why he asked you to cut back caffeine, to avoid side effects of the drug. Caffeine usually does not cause asthma attack.

3. Soda, by itself does not trigger an asthma attack. If it is a cold soda, due to cold temperature it can trigger asthma symptoms.

Hope above points will be helpful to you for your queries.

Wish you the best of the health.

Should you have any further query, please feel free to ask at HCM.

Thank you & Regards.
