Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes An Elevated Left Hemidiaphragm With Throat Tickle And Cough?
I have an elevated left hemidiaphragm diagnosed by CXR. All other findings on the XR were normal. my bloods show completely normal apart from a slightly increased AST reading. This is due (I think) to the Naproxen recently taken for arm pain for which I am also undergoing Physiotherapy. I have a slight tickly feeling in my throat and a dry non-productive cough which is getting progessively worse. After a panic attack and visit to A&E the doctor advised the belly was soft and lungs/chest sounded clear. Omeprazole has been given as a treatment for GERD which i have no symptoms of and does not appear to be helping or reducing the cough/throat irritation. i am due to aee my GP soon can you please advise other considerations of diagnosis for the diaphragm/throat/cough symptoms? Thanks in advance
The elevation involving left hemidiaphragm with history of dry cough indicates viral infection induced splenomegaly most likely. The enlargement of spleen compress the left hemidiaphragm from abdomen counterpart and makes the diaphragm raised above. However, a clinical examination to palpate the spleen is very essential in this case to proceed further guideline.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
