General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello, my name is Dr.Dorina Gurabardhi. I understand your concern.
Enlargement of tonsils usually causes no symptoms but can cause difficulty breathing or swallowing, a sore throat, and sometimes recurring ear or sinus infections or obstructive sleep apnea.
Treatment include :
-Antibiotics may be used if a bacterial infection is suspected
- if the cause is allergies, you may take a nasal corticosteroid spray or other drugs, such as antihistamines, by mouth.
-sometimes the tonsils and adenoids are removed.
To diagnose is necessary a visit ro an otorinolaringologyst and have some analysis.
Some advices that I can give to you are :
-Drink warm or cool liquids (whichever feels better). These include tea, soup, juice, and rehydration drinks.
-Eat flavored ice pops, such as Popsicles.
Take pain medicines (such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen) to help relieve sore throat pain if is necessary.
Hope my answer was helpful, if you have any other questions I'll be glad to help, thanks!
