Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
ok well my father was admitted for an infection under the skin, he told me that he cant say or spell the word but said that its similiar to strep, and that it can only be cured by penicilan - so my question to you is what is this and how is it caused.
The skin infection caused by strep that your father admitted to the hospital is called erysipelas. It is an infection of the upper dermis and superficial lymphatics caused by beta-hemolytic group A Streptococcus bacteria on scratches or otherwise infected areas. Penicillins are the only one antibiotic to use by injection (intravenous or intramuscular) depending on the severity of the symptoms.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Albana Sejdini
