What Causes An Itchy Patch On The Labia And Vaginal Opening?

I have a flat, itchy patch on the right side of my labia. The patch is color fleshed and itches uncontrollably! I recently had a Pap smear and was told I have BV, my OBGYN also told me the itchy patch was genital warts and prescribed aldara. Aldara has not helped, it caused blisters and boils on the surrounding areas, not the infected area. Just a few moments ago I found a new itchy bump at the opening of my vagina. Please help!!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear,
Understand your concern.
As per your history you are suffering from Bacterial vaginosis and genital warts.
Both are the STDs.
Warts is due to Human papiloma virus: transmitted by oral, vaginal and anal sex.
You already taken Aldara, but note side effect of aldara are:
1. mild skin irritation, itching, dryness, flaking, scabbing, crusting, redness, or hardening of the skin where the medicine was applied
2. changes in the color skin
3. headache, dizziness
4. cold symptoms such as stuffy nose, sneezing, sore throat;
5. vaginal itching or discharge

So i think you have side effect of drugs.

You can take alternate drug if you are overcome by this side effect
80% Trichloroacetic acid gel
0.15-0.5 % PODOFIX GEL

If wart not responds to drugs
Go for ablation surgery:
Best is nitrogen cryotherapy: very less scar after ablation
other are electrocauterization and simple excition

Following are the advice of Gonorrhea/Chlymadia:
1. Drugs: Cetriaxone 500 mg Intra mascular stat and Azithromycin 1 gram stat, because to treat gonorrhea and chlamydia.
It also overcome ceftriaxone resistance

In addition
2. Avoid sex till you clear from infection
3. Use safer sex practice: Use condom, Dental dams
4. Maintain hygiene after sex
5. If fever: Tablet Paracetamol 500 mg BD
6.Tablet cetrizine 5 mg BD orally
Hope this may help you
Wish you good health
Best regards
Dr. Sagar
