What Causes An Itchy Rash While On Medication For High BP?

My father is 72 yes old. Is in e,cellent health, and takes a low dose medication for high blood pressure. He lives just north of Houston, Texas, is married for 26 years, and works full time for a construction company driving a pickup truck that is used to drive full dumpster from job sites to the city waste facility. He started theis job about a year ago. About the same time, he has developed a rash that looks somewhat like mosquito bites, and itches incessantly. He has seen doctors tnat have treated with allergy shots, some kind of light treatment, also changed detergents, body soaps, etc to low reactive versions. Nothing has helped. Heat may or may not worsen the problem. He was recently off work for five days and the symptoms did not go away. Any thoughts?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Blood pressure medication belonging to groups like ACE inhibitors or ARBs may cause allergic rashes and should be switched to much safer ones like calcium channel blockers.

Also, long term topical or oral anti allergic medicine may be needed for the rash. Monteleukast and Fexofenadine may be helpful, so these should be discussed with the treating physician.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Wishing you a speedy recovery.
