What Causes An Itchy Scab On The Breast During 23 Weeks Of Pregnancy?

This is my first pregnancy. I am 23 weeks pregnant and there has been a strange scab around my nipples on both breast. Now they are itchy and clear liquid coming from the scabs. And it s most hurtful when I take off my bra because its sticks to it. I have used prescribed antifungal cream on it but it makes no difference. What is wrong?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I think you better do a culture of the fluid that comes out of the bumps on nipples because there is a possibility of having a bacterial skin infection. Antifungal creams are not working but you may need antibacterial ointments.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Olgeta Xhufka, General & Family Physician
