My 95 year old aunt is a resident in a nursing home. The past few months she has complained of an itchy scalp. She has developed a few small lumps on her scalp which are very itchy. She explains the feeling like she has bugs in her hair because the itch moves around her head. The nursing home PA looked at her scalp and said the bumps are normal. I find this answer unacceptable. I was wondering if the addition of Melatonin to her med list might be the problem. The Melatonin was added about 6 months ago to help her sleep but since then the doctor has added Trazodone for sleep. They have not discontinued the melatonin. Could this itching have any relation to the Melatonin? She is otherwise quite healthy. Her other med's include hydroclorothiazide for blood pressure, warfarin for heart, and she has had a pace maker for the past 10 years.
