Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes An Itchy Splotchy Rash On The Torso Of A Child?
My 11 year old daughter has had a fever (101-103) and cough since last Saturday. Yesterday was her first fever free day. Still has the cough. Her doctor said it was viral. This evening she broke out with an itch splotchy rash on her torso (front and back)
Based on the history you have shared, she needs to be reviewed by her pediatrician as the rash can be associated to viral infection in general but some systemic infections like measles or chickenpox etc may need to be ruled out.
Meanwhile, anti-inflammatory drugs like acetaminophen or Ibuprofen can be used along with antihistamines like cetrizine or loratidine for symptomatic relief.
Dangerous complications or an infection like meningyetc should also be ruled out. Baseline blood counts and inflammatory markers will be needed.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
