Hi. I'm a 20yr old male and I've had what appeared to be thrush for a few months now. I've had multiple treatments for thrush including nystatin and diflucan and nothing is working. Went back to the doctor this time and he said he didn't see any thrush. Swabbed my throat and there was no fungal infection present. I'm not sure what's going on, but when this condition flares up, I feel like my throat it filled with mucus and it makes me want to puke. Also, the roof of my mouth has been discolored white since the beginning of this. My tongue and throat have been slightly discolored white as well. I'm not sure what this is but it's miserable when it flares up and my primary doctor now says it looks normal after all of this.
Oral Thrush is a yeast infection and commonly occurs due to any underlying disease or medical condition like side effects of medication like steroids and antibiotics, dry mouth, stress, diabetes, immuno-compromised condition etc..
If it is discoloured white then it is probably that the infection is still present..
But first of all you should consult an Oral Physician or an Oral Pathologist and get evaluated so that the underlying cause of the problem can be ruled out and treated and once the cause is treated the infection will also subside..
For now you need to get a microscopy of scraping from tongue and root of the mouth has to be done.. If it is thrush then you need to take another script of antifungal medication like Nystatin mouthwash, Clotrimazole lozenges and oral anti-fungal medication like Fluconazole, Itraconazole etc.. Take plenty of probiotics like Yogurt and garlic.. Clean your tongue using a tongue scraper.. Drink plenty of water..
Hope this helps..
Regards..
