What Causes An Unusual Chest Pain After Smoking?

Hi. Every morning upon waking and using the bathroom I spit out brown phlem, I guess due to smoking (occasionally), I quit a few weeks ago. Today I woke and spat lots of fresh blood, which was concerning. I had chest pain a few weeks ago after smoking more than usual on holiday and still have some back pain when inhaling which I think is my lung. I also bleed when using the toilet, fresh blood, I suspect due to hemorriods which I do have. Thought I should mention this in case it is important. Can you advise please?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Smoking is injurious to health in many ways. They injures lungs, stomach and esophagus. Smoking can lead to gastric and esophageal irritation which lead to stomach pain and heart burn or sharp pain on left side of the chest. Many a times this pain can be referred to back and shoulder also. Smoking is also a risk factor for hemorrhoids. So I suggest you to quit smoking if it is possible.

Thank you.

Regards,
Dr. Manan
