What Causes An Unusual Taste After Cementing A Dental Crown?

Hi! I feel like a. Ad taste coming from my permanent cemented crown!whenever I chew a gum or put my tongue on my crown I just feel a weird taste! I went to a new dentist and he said that maybe it s from the cementation or root canal filling and he wants to remove the crown to clean what s under it but he said that the crown might break while taking it off! Do you know if I m doing the right thing or not? Thank you

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understating your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of wired taste from a cemented dental crown which seems to be due to residual cement which is causing bad taste and could be due to fact that porcelain is abrasive towards opposing teeth and giving this taste. Need not to worry. i would suggest you to visit oral and maxillofacial surgeon once and get it examined and start treatment accordingly. If it is a ceramic-metal crown that is made with non-precious metals then chances of allergic reaction to base metals and this could be due to that. You should go for crown removal and get it treated accordingly. If it is infection then start with antibiotics and if it is due to filling material get it refilled.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
