What Causes Anal Bleeding Along With Headaches?

Hi, I felt fine this morning apart from some anal bleeding when I pass stool. This has been happening for awhile now although recently I have noticed a lot more blood. This morning there was quite a bit of blood. There is no pain. During a workout I felt quite strange (I felt the same last night before going to bed) so went to lie down. I became very cold, got a fever, chills, body aches- lots of pain on the tops of my feet. Half an hour later I got a really bad stomach ache and started vomiting. After vomiting I feel a little better, I don t have chills or body aches just a really bad headache but I still have anal bleeding.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

In your case, blood presence in stool doesn’t seem to be something serious. And in most causes of are benign and include hemorrhoids, anal fissure or rectal polyps. These are primarily treated with the stool softener, diet and Sitz baths.

If there are some other symptoms such as weight loss or pain or inability to have bowel movements, then some further tests should be done.

It is common that hard stool leads to bleeding due to fragile hemorrhoids, so it is important to soften your stools with an appropriate diet that includes a lot of fluids, probiotics, high fiber food, and stool softeners (Laxatives) to avoid hard stool and straining.

If there is no improvement in the next few weeks, then tests are required which include colonoscopy and irigography. Other causes may be more serious which include tumors or inflammatory bowel diseases, and these should be ruled out with colonoscopy which must be done if there is low blood count present or rapid weight loss.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ivan R. Rommstein
