Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have anemia. I found a type of anemia that was common with diabetes, drugs which I thought pertained to all my mess for different things. I have been tired, less concentration, stomach pain, indigestion etc. I cannot find this article again. Can you give me an idea of what kind of anemia this could be? Maybe Ican find the article again
As far as I know, diabetes isn't associated with any particular kind of anemia, though perhaps if your diabetes is causing chronic inflammation in the body, you may have anemia of chronic disease.
This happens because the inflammation causes the body to not create new red blood cells as much. The other main type of anemia is from a lack of iron, either from blood loss (usually from a gastrointestinal source) or poor absorption.
The most important initial test would be iron studies, especially ferritin, to figure out which is causing your anemia.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Aaron Branch, General & Family Physician
