Hello. My daughter is 18 months old and has not been gaining weight for 6 months. Doctor ordered blood work for her and it showed that she is anemic and has an elevated sed rate ( sed rate was 35). She then did iron studies that showed was not iron deficient. What is causing the anemia if not iron deficiency and the elevated sed rate? What is the next step?
Hi, Thank you for asking question on health care magic. Anemia can occur apart from Iron deficiency like Folicacid or Vitamin B12 deficiency. Hemolytic anemia due to defect in the red cell membrane, Hemoglobin or red cell enzymes. There are several other causes for anemia and it needs thorough investigation. Better consult pediatrician.
