What Causes Anxiety And Depression While Suffering From Candidiasis?

Hi Dr, I was wondering, can IUD in a woman cause the husband to get candidiasis where the penis becomes tender and some mild discomfort in urethra. When this happens, the husband also gets mental issues such as anxiety, brain fog and irritability as well as depression. Does this make sense?

I can understand your concern.
Yes, STI (sexually transmitted infection) can cause psychiatric illnesses.
Candidiasis is fungal infection and it is commonly transmitted by unprotected Intercourse.
Women with IUD are at more risk of Candidiasis. And through women their sexual partners are at increased risk.
Candidiasis in male is chronic, cumbersome, bad looking disease.
So if male gets genital Candidiasis, he becomes psychologically disturbed and thinks that this will not heal in future and he will not able to sexually active in future etc.
All these thoughts creat anxiety and depression and reduce his self confidence.
So better to consult psychiatrist for your husband and get done counselling sessions.
Try to convince him that Candidiasis is 100% treatable disease and with proper treatment he will be alright.
He may need supportive anxiolytic and anti depressant drugs.
Don't worry, he will be alright.
