What Causes Anxiety And Elevated BP While On Propranolol?
hello, due to the shortage in atenolol, I have changed to propranolol after over 20 years using atenolol. The propranolol is keeping my blood pressure and heart rate down, but I feel nervouse and have spikes in blood pressure every once in awhile which make me even more nervous. Is this normal?
Hi and Welcome to Ask a Doctor service .I have read your question and here is my opinion . Atenalol and Propranolol are of the same group called beta blockers .However Atenalol is a long acting drug ( can be taken once a day )and Propranolol is short acting so need to be taken 3 times a day . Because your BP is yet not controlled you can increase the dose to the optimum. If still not controlled, you can add another drug .But this all should be done by advice of your treating doctor . So keep a record of your BP? and talk to your doctor he would manage accordingly of dose needs to be increased or not . If anxiety is predominant ( which can also raise BP ) in real. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
