What Causes Anxiety And High Heartbeat Rate After Accident?

Had a car accident in July 2014. Since then I have been feeling anxious when I drive. This past week I was required to do a Work saver assessment pre employment test. I had two days to lower my heart rate, which was above 100. Question: could the accident have triggered this anxiety that would cause my heart rate to jump up? Note: never experienced high heart rate before the accident.

Hello

You have suffered a car accident in 2014. Now you have anxiety when you drive. I can understand your concerns.

I think the traumatic memories of accident cause anxiety whenever you drive. You feel apprehension of getting an accident again which cause raised heart beat.

I would suggest you to practice deep breathing and meditation to keep your anxiety levels in control.

You can take tablet inderal 20 mg before driving to control your apprehensions.

Consult a psychologist for psychological therapies like biofeedback to help in anxiety.

Hope this helps.
Thanks.
