What Causes Anxiety And Palpitations In An Elderly COPD Patient?

Sir, my mother is 85 yrs of age and a COPD patient.her Dr advised for nebulisation of duolin three times and foracort twice.however she complained of anxiety and palpitations then the Dr changed budecort instead of foracort.will this make any difference in her anxiety.will it reduce with this change.secondly I give her one repsule of duolin and subsequently give budecort after duolin .is it proper way of giving Nebuliser or I should give a gap between the two. Thirdly I wish to know why she is having anxiety/ palpitations.is it due to this nebulisation or something else and should I consult a psychiatrist for this.pl help.regds.Reena Tandon

Hi,

The anxiety & palpitations your mother has could be due to a side-effect of Dublin nebulizer which may reduce after lowering the dosage /taking it sos &whole management being done by regular &fixed time inhalation with Budacort alone.

Addition of new molecule like Montelukast would reduce need of bronchodilator nebulization... of at all it suits her (in consultation with her chest physician) long-standing COPD can affect heart function .which needs to be checked-fixed with specific medication with cardiologist's advice.

Age wise psychological palpitation is possible; needs anxiolytic drug, if needful after consulting a psychologist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
