Hi, may I answer your health queries right now ? Please type your query here...Im 25 years old and had a panic attack about a year ago...im currently taking zoloft and it has been putting weight on me...Ive felt the anxiety come back a little bit ...does this mean the zoloft isnt working or do i need more?
You suffered panic attacks one year back and then was advised to take Zoloft or Sertraline of that. The drug caused improvement but now the symptoms has recurred and you has been gaining weight also.
Panic disorder is a type of anxiety disorder and the disorder runs in episodes. Some times even on medicines symptom flare up may occur and which can cause difficulty. As per my opinion if the anxiety is controllable then there dis no need to worry. Try relaxation methods like Progressive Muscle Relaxation Exercise, Breathing Exercises which will help in reducing the anxiety. If symptoms persist even after relaxation exercises then consult your psychiatrist again for dose adjustments or change of drug. As you have gained weight also then medicines like Escitalopram, Fluoxetine can help. These medicines are good anti anxiety drugs and are not associated with weight gain. For episodic control of anxiety drugs like Propranolol can prove useful. Consult a psychiatrist for prescription of drugs.
Thanks, hope this helps you.
