What Causes Aortic Valve Regurgitation And Dilated Aortic Root?

Hi, I am a 51 year old white female. I have been diagnosed with regurgitation of the mitral and aortic valve, and more alarmingly a dilatation of the aortic root (4cm) ... this has really worried me. I also have ectopic beats and a low junctional rate?? What should I be doing? Avoiding? etc. Any help. Thanks, J

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per my clinical experience, there can be various reasons for the aortic regurgitation with dilated aortic root as:
- Hypertension (most common)
- Syphillis
- Marfan syndrome
- Connective tissue disorders
- Sarcoidosis
- Severely damaged bicuspid aortic valve leaflet

However, a detail study of 2D echo is best initial test of choice in this regard. Any of the reports available with you are worth to share with me during follow up discussion chat.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
