Yesterday a swollen vein appeared suddenly (I didnt knock it) on the side of my thumb. It was hot and painful to touch and felt sore when I moved my thumb. After several hours the swelling went down but now I have a dark grey/red bruise in the area where the swelling was.
There must have been a minor trauma in the form of some pressure or minor scratch on the thumb which went unnoticed. So the vein over the thumb got bruised producing haematoma (collection of blood ).After some time blood gets absorbed leaving discoloration of skin. This discoloration will also disappear.
