What Causes Arrhythmia While Having An Indwelling Catheter In The Chest?
I had a chest catheter put in for dialysis, as I m in renal failure. When they put the cath in, it caused a heart arrhythmia, and my heart started racing up to 124 beats per minute. Dialysis nurses are not concerned, but it s been over a week, and it is still racing. What can I do to fix it? All they can tell me is everyone is different, and if I m concerned, go to the ER.
General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi, I understand your concern. The arrythemia seen in patients on dyalisis for kinney failure is basically due to electrolyte imbalance.... changes in serum potassium, magnasium lead to more risk of cardiovascular complications due to disease itself... it has nothing to do with dialysis cathter placed in chest/axilla.
So you should go to ER/your treating doctor's hospital - for urgent care... get serrum electrolyte levels assessed &give specific medications for recovery. Thanks.
