What Causes Asymmetrical Spot On Forearm With History Of Basal Cell Carcinoma?
I have a bright red asymmetrical spot that appeared on my forearm overnight. It is about 1/4 inch by 1/3 inch. It does not hurt or itch. At first I thought it might be a bruise or blood blister but it has not changed in several days. I ve had basal cell carcinoma several years ago, have moles and freckles. Could this be melanoma or just an age spot?
- It is possible that you have actinic keratosis (which comes from sun exposure). Melanomas generally don't present as red spots. - In any case, watch out for changes in size, onset of itching, pain or bleeding. - Go ahead and plan for a consultation with your dermatologist and a possible biopsy just to be sure that its nothing malignant. With your history of basal cell carcinoma, I would err on the side of caution.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Pranav Balakrishnan, General & Family Physician
