Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
For the past two weeks, my cousin has been having auditory hallucinations and hears three distinct voices in his head that tell him that he is a psychic and that the NAVY is coming to get him to take him to San Diego for testing. His bags are packed and he is ready to go. However, he knows this is not real and has seen a psychiatrist. He can t go to work. He was put on anti-anxiety medication. He does not have a history of mental illness. However, he did have an adverse reaction to LSD a few months ago which he thinks may have helped triggered this. In addition, he has been on a paleo diet which could have contributed to his current situation. What should we do?
Until recently voices were regarded as a symptom of mental illness and not talked about because of fear of stigma. Hearing voices is still considered by psychiatry as an auditory hallucination and as a symptom of conditions such as schizophrenic disorders, manic depression and psychosis.
