Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Back Pain And Frequent Urination In An Elderly Person?
My mother is 86 years old. She has pain in her back, radiating around to the sides and front. She had this pain all day yesterday and today. It s worse today than yesterday. She has also been urinating today and yesterday far more frequently than usual. She was diagnosed with a heart valve problem several years ago. Should I take her to Urgent Care or the ER?
These symptoms are suggestive of a urinary tract infection. Urine analysis is required to confirm the diagnosis.
Although this complain doesn't seem like an emergency, health issues in the elderly must be taken more carefully. They are more vulnerable. For example fever is much less well tolerated in the elderly than younger individuals.
If the symptoms are still present, I'd advice you to see a doctor within days. If any more serious symptoms developed, take her to the ER immediately.
Hope she gets better soon. Regards.
