What Causes Back Pain And Tightness In The Chest?

I hurt my back a week ago, I have tightness in the chest area since. A couple of days ago I twisted wrong and cause extreme pain in my back. Since the tightness in my chest has got worse and have had a hard time catching my breathe every so often. Is my back pain related to chest tightening and shortness of breathe?

Hello,

I can understand your concern. Sometimes injury in back region can cause chest tightness and shortness of breath. However, they should not be ignored as it is possible that you have hurt your spinal cord and the shortness of breath is related to that injury.

I would advise you to visit an orthopedic surgeon and get an x-ray of the spinal cord. If bone problems are ruled out, you can wait for the injury to heal and the chest tightness and breathing problem will be solved on its own.

I hope this answer helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. I wish you recover soon from injury!

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
