What Causes Back Pain And Tingling Sensation In The Sole Of The Foot?

I recently developed a tingling sensation in the sole of my right foot. It comes and goes on a variable interval of 2-5 seconds. It does not occur at night in bed. I also have back pain (upper and mid back). The back pain is now worse than normal. Any thoughts?

Neurologist 's  Response
Hello,

The sole of the foot is innervated by the nerve wich radix exits from the first sacral vertebra.

Often back pain is caused by problems of the lumbo- sacral vertebral column like arthrosis or other degenertive diasese, arthritis, discal herniation, some infections etc.

These diseases may cause inflammation of the nerve radixes involved in the structures suffering. The most probable cause may be a disc herniation at L5-S1 level wich explains both the back pain and the tingling at the sole of the foot.

Anyway, an objective examination is needed, so I would suggest consulting the neurologist and if possible a lumbar CT scan or MRI is recommended. For further concerns, you may ask me again!

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
