What Causes Back Pain In Lumbar Region While Suffering From Arthritis In Neck?

I ve been on Ramipril 2.5mg for approx 6 weeks. For the last week my back and neck have been aching. Although I have arthritis in my neck, I don t generally have a problem with my back. The pain in the back started in the upper back and then went to my lumbar region. For the last few days it has been in the whole of my back and seems to be getting worse. Its not a sharp pain just a continual ache which is very uncomfortable. I have not injured my back and not aware of having strained it. I wonder whether my diet which includes celery and banana and tomatoes are having an effect on the drug? Thank you!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Since you have a history of cervical arthritis, arthritis may also affect other joints of your body or even the lower back. You can take NSAIDS, naproxen, one SOS for relief. Back pain can be due to osteoarthritis, spinal stenosis, lumber disc herniation, lumber degenerative disc disease, etc. You are suggested to get clinically examined by an orthopedic and get X-ray, CT, MRI done. Get treated at the earliest.

Take a balanced diet. Cut on tomatoes and bananas if it does not suit you. Avoid taking processed food, trans fat, processed meat, refined flour, refined grains. Avoid addictions if any. Do regular walking and exercises under a physiotherapist. Avoid sedentary lifestyle.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
