What Causes Back Pain, Nausea And Loss Of Appetite In A Patient With Kidney Disease?

I ve had some kidney issues since I was about 19 I am now 30. Caffeine gives me extreme pain & kidney infections. Also after I excersise my urine is pinkish/red, I ve also noticed it to be that way recently for no apparent reason. In the past week or so this has happen along with kidney pain, I have went to the doctor which they found white blood cells, blood & bacteria I have been on bactrim for 3 days now and they gave me a shot of antibiotics there. The pain and feeling bad seems to worsen at night, I even feel naucious and loss of appetite I seem to feel like I have to pee more in the evening as well. I am waiting on another doctors appointment to hopefully see a specialist and get to the bottom of this. But in the mean time I was hoping to find some answers to ease my mind....

Hi,

Actually the following are very important symptoms that need to be addressed in kidney diseases:
1) Severe pain in the loin
2) Blood in urine
3) Burning or painful micturition
4) Loss of appetite
5) Nausea

There are 2 types of kidney injury:
1) Acute kidney injury
2) Chronic kidney disease

Acute kidney injury may be due to drugs and chemicals and dehydration. Chronic kidney disease may be due to diabetes mellitus, hypertension, nephrotic syndrome, connective tissue diseases, or glomerulonephritis. Nausea and loss of appetite may be symptoms of uremia or kidney failure.

My suggestion to you is as follows. Your symptoms may be due to a kidney stone or any kidney injury. As you have typical symptoms of kidney failure, you need to go see a nephrologist as soon as possible. Your serum creatinine levels are very important to determine the functioning of kidneys. So please get that test done. If you are on any pain medication like NSAIDs, please stop them as soon as possible as they interfere with kidney function. Check your water intake not too much or not too less. See the specialist as early as possible.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
