Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Back Pain, Numbness And Weakness In Legs?
I have pain in the center of my back which radiates around both sides, I also have severe pain in my lower back causing numbness, pain, and weakness in my legs. My doctor says I need to quit smoking and strengthen my core muscles and all my pain will go away
Your symptoms seem to be related to sciatica pain. Sciatica, which is caused by a pinched nerve in the lower back, is pain that radiates along the sciatic nerve. I suggest to do an X-ray for further evaluation. Meanwhile, I agree with your doctor that you should do regular exercise, especially gentle stretching exercises.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
