What Causes Backache And Tingling Sensation In The Right Arm?
Male age 65 with pain in upper part of his back on the right hand side and tingling down the right arm. Has had a chest xray which was clear. His Dr. gave him RX for muscle relaxer and one for inflammation but it has not helped the pain. Has been on Medications for 4 days. Medical history includes prostate cancer, diabetes , liver problems and glaucoma
Upper back pain and tingling down the arm so likely due to cervical spondylosis. The resulting nerve compression is the reason for tingling in the arms. X-ray and MRI scanning of cervical spine can confirm the diagnosis.
Management is as follows:
-Ibuprofen to relieve pain and inflammation
-Physiotherapy to strengthen muscles and stabilize spine
-Using neck collar when pain is troublesome
-Anti seizure medication like Gabapentin to decrease the paresthesias
-Make.sure to sleep on comfortable bed and pillows
