What Causes Backache Under The Shoulder Blades?

For a few months now I ve been having pain in my back under my shoulder blades (where my kidneys would be). It started out when I was sleeping I would wake up with the pain accompanied by having to urinate badly. In the beginning once I urinated the pain would subside, but now the pain is more intense and it feels like my kidneys are bruised (it hurts to laugh).

Hi,

Ok, you should consult a nephrologist and have an ultrasound done. If your pain is relieved by urination and aggravated by drinking lots of water, then you might have hydronephrosis. The pain of kidney stones is dull and located at the flank while that of ureteric colic is severe colicky not relieved by changing position. So to sort things out go for an abdomen and pelvis ultrasound, and a KUB X-ray as well.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
