What Causes Bacterial Infection After Surgeries On Upper And Lower Intestines?

If my wife has a serious bacterial infection after surgeries of her upper and lower intestines which was just found out, what are some of the names of the infections she could have?. They just got the results back after putting her on Flagyl and ceftin. They took her off the ceftin before she started taking this and are keeping her on the flagyl. Before this she was on 3 weeks of Invanz antiobiotic which she is now off of.???

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

There are various types of bacteria which can affect the intestines after surgery. However, I would suspect clostridium difficile infection as it is caused in patients who are operated and have been on a long term antibiotics. Flagyl could be the treatment for that which she has been put on.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
