What Causes Bad Odour Brownish Discharge After Taking Emergency Contraceptive Pills?
Hi i took the morning after pill and continued onto my contraceptive pills, its been 3 days since the morning after pill in conjunction with my contraceptive pills and i have been experiencing smelly brown discharge. Is this normal following the morning after pill?
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. Emergency contraceptive pill needs to be taken within 72 hours after an unprotected intercourse to prevent pregnancy. You need not continue with your regular contraceptive pill after taking emergency contraceptive pill. The symptoms you have mentioned, are indicative of side effects of the pill. Since the discharge you have mentioned has bad odour, which is indicative of infection, you need to take a course of Tablet. Metronidazole. The emergency contraceptive pill would prevent pregnancy by causing withdrawal bleeding within 3 weeks from the intake of the pills. In case this doesn't happen, you need to seek medical attention immediately. You can continue your regular birth control pill immediately from the next cycle. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best.
