What Causes Bad Odour From Mouth Post Extraction Of Wisdom Tooth?

Hello,
I had my 4 wisdom teeth removed about 2 weeks ago. It seems like I'm healing just fine...no pain nor nothing. However about 5 days ago I started noticing a very nasty smell that comes and goes. I have the feeling of having something stuck in my throat..like mucus and I try coughing to spit it out and very little comes out and it leaves me the worse mouth taste ever and what's even worst is that I can literally smell it inside my nose... Is a really bad smell. I don't know if it might be an infection... However like I said I don't feel any symptoms of infection and I have no discharge. Is just that nasty smell that's making crazy. Please advice!!

Hi..Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...

There might be some food lodgement in the extraction socket causing the bad smell & nasty taste, You should rinse your mouth with a mouthwash like Listerine twice a day. As you are having no pain & swelling, the healing should be fine.
For more queries consult your dental surgeon

Hope this information helps.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain nasty taste in mouth along with feeling of something struck in throat can be due to infection in any of the extraction sockets leading to pus discharge and inflammation and feeling of something struck in throat can be due to inflamed tonsils which can be seen commonly due to infection related to third molar..
There can be discharge at times and due to it you are not able to notice the discharge and there is on and off nasty smell..
Nothing to worry, consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and in case of infection antibiotics, painkillers and warm saline gargles can be advised..
In case if infection is not ruled out in extraction sockets other causes like Throat infection, sinusitis, post nasal drip nasal polyps, upper respiratory tract infection, oral and gum infection etc can be looked for and treated accordingly..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
