The issue of bad vaginal odor is definite concern of vaginal or
cervical infection through bacteria or fungi most likely. Guidelines at present:
- Plenty of liquids to maintain hydration and prevent secondary urinary infection
- Vaginal hygiene care with antiseptic liquid or soap
- Wear loose, clean, cotton inner wears avoid tight jeans
- Do not go for prolong use of same tampon
- Avoid visit to public urinals (a place for high transmission possibility
of various pathogenic bugs)
- Avoid intercourse till recovery
- Control of blood sugar
- Get a vaginal or cervical swab report in the lab
- Prescription of anti fungal and anti-bacterial medications like
fluconazole and
metronidazole,
azithromycin or fluoroquinolones
- Vaginal medications as pessaries for fungal control with
miconazole or clotrimazole
In suspected cases as Chlamydia, sex partner also needs therapy with metronidazole tablet for a period of 7-14 days.
