Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a 72 year old woman. I have not indulged in sex for several yrs. I am a widow. Recently I have developed a bad vaginal odor. I have no idea what the cause may be. The only new thing in my life is that I have quit smoking after 55 yrs. using Chantix. I am no longer taking it but have remained smoke free for 4 months.
The smell in the vaginal area can be due to slight changes in the vaginal flora. This does not cause excessive discharge, itching or burning. However, you may need lactic acid treatment.
I will suggest you to consult an OBGYN specialist to get properly examined internally and get appropriate treatment timely.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Ivan R. Rommstein, General Surgeon
